QFX Format Explained
QFX (Quicken Financial Exchange) is a file format based on OFX that Intuit created specifically for Quicken. Banks that support direct download to Quicken offer QFX files alongside PDFs and CSVs. QFX files contain transaction data structured for seamless import into Quicken without manual column mapping. Technical Details
QFX is essentially OFX with an additional INTU.BID header field that identifies the financial institution to Quicken. The file uses SGML-based markup with transaction elements including DTPOSTED (date), TRNAMT (amount), FITID (unique transaction ID), and NAME or MEMO (description). Quicken uses the FITID to prevent duplicate imports. Unlike CSV, QFX carries metadata about the account type, currency, and bank identifier, but it is only natively supported by Quicken and a few other tools, making CSV the more universal format.
